LEARN TO SQUARE DANCE

As long as you can walk, know your right from your left, and like to laugh, you can learn to square dance. Together with seven other people in your square, your goal is to execute directions given by the caller, all at a brisk walking pace. It's literally teamwork set to music.

Square dancing can trace its history to European roots and has evolved to a true American past time.  It's mentally stimulating. People who start Modern Square Dancing soon realize that it's a "thinking person's activity." The interaction with the caller and the other dancers to complete a movement successfully keeps the mind sharp, focused, and challenged. It is an escape from all the worries of the day.

A class will introduce you to many calls. Square dancing is unlike other social dancing because you have to learn the vocabulary and calls first. It is not something where you can just get out there and move and groove to the music!

Once you have that foundation, you can really enjoy the activity. Many people start our classes as a fun evening out or weekly exercise activity and as time goes on discover they really enjoy square dancing and are eager to learn more and work towards proficiency.
